This is a law that will cut out a lot of aggravation for both you and the tenant. A smoke detector that works for 10 years! Great! Because most of the housing inspections that failed because of smoke detectors only failed because the battery needed to be replaced – not because the smoke detector needed replacing. The tenants are responsible for doing that, however, if it’s not done it still ends up being a liability to the landlord…A glaring potential hazard.
